The types of mattress are varying from spring mattress, sponge mattress, mixture of natural fiber and sponge mattress, rubber mattress etc.
Generally, you should choose a mattress that suitable to the age of the person who will use it. For example, for children and teenagers, should use mattress that use soft stuff material, adult should use a little harder stuff material such as natural-fiber mattress.
